Stepping up to vote after the election speeches.

Elections 2014

 Nature's Way have worked hard to research information to support their policies. Great team effort. Xing the leader of the party is ready to deliver tomorrow!

The Bright Kiwi's have campaigned well with their advertising. Their policies are clearly outlined and they have been very supportive as a party.

 The media team have done an amazing job of interviewing the party leaders and the filming will be presented tomorrow Friday before the seniors get to cast their votes. They also kept their board up to date with the latest information for people to view and read.

Election Interview

The Media Team conducted interviews with all the leaders prior to the elections. Here we see Sam, a member of the media team,  interviewing Matt Ford the leader of the Bright Kiwi's.

Learning about weight

Exploring how 1kg of rice is made up of 1000gm. 

Finding 1kg of clay and then dividing the 1kg of clay into 2 x 500g blocks without weighing. After 3 attempts to find equal amounts explain what strategy was used.

The see-saw problem. Using a balancing scale created from a ruler and a block the children were required to use a bolt and balance the scales at the other end with a number of objects. Recording using diagrams and looking for a pattern the children wrote an explanation of what they noticed.

Spanish lessons

Room 8 are getting really confident in conversing in Spanish. Lucia and Juan teach us every Thursday morning and we are building up our vocabulary and small phrases. Today we played eye spy and used our colours. Then we learnt our numbers beyond ten. To finish today's session we played a number game with a partner. For this we had one hand behind our backs and on go, shot out 1 - 5 fingers. Then it was the first to add the numbers and say that number in spanish. Thanks Lucia and Juan for making our learning fun.

Rhythm Interactive

Yesterday we had John and Lucy visit our school to present an interactive music session. It was amazing! We were so energised and engaged throughout the hour performance. Using our voices combined with the beat of the drums, we created incredible music.

Here we are actively listening as the show had no verbal instructions!

Fun, laughter and enjoyment. Keeping in time and remembering the sequences was all part of creating the music.

John and Lucy were inspirational presenters. They worked hard to have all the senior students keep the rhythm.

  

Art Elective in Room 8

This year for learning painting skills we create a mural. With our theme for the year being 'structures' it was appropriate to choose a building that we are closely associated with, the 'University of Otago'. The 25 children in the elective were each given one small piece of the puzzle that they were responsible for painting. This required them to focus on proportioning their paper, aligning their work with people above, below and beside their puzzle piece so that they could make a connection. It wasn't until the final day that they worked out which building they had painted. Great effort team!

The day we finished our mural and discovered it was the University.

Just adding the final touches and making a few connections with colour and shape.

The wee highlander has graduated and our wonderful mural now adorns the hallway in the senior school.
